Hi I’m alex, a graphic designer living in San Francisco. Unlike Washington DC, where I moved from, SF is a city with a high concentration of visual artists, or better said, artists in general. Interestingly enough, most people think that the fog you see in the city comes from all the pot being smoked on a daily basis by all these creative people, but it’s all urban legend, there are climatological reasons behind the fog.

One good thing about living here is that you constantly get inspired by other people’s work even if their work is not related to yours at all (hopefully you will get to inspire other people as well!). The challenging aspect is that there is a lot of competition, and that fantastic project you were already wrapping your hands around… can easily be assigned to someone else with greater talent. So therefore it is as well the perfect place to practice some great Buddhist teachings: surrender, accept and let go.

This blog is basically an outlet for me to post visual ruminations in the form of artwork, design work or anything in between. Ideas that I need to put on paper in order to get them out of my head and therefore create space for new ideas to germinate and grow. The type of stuff a client would never hire you to do… but that is still fun to work on. A little about me: I loose track of time whenever browse online font-houses (I know, how much of a geek can I be?). My favorite font-house is SudTipos (based in Argentina) and my favorite fonts these days are Politica and Pill Gothic. I used to like Gotham… until I started seeing it around way to much. I loose track of time whenever I practice guitar. My favorite performers (these days) are Rodrigo y Gabriela. I used to like Jose Gonzalez (I still like his music specially the lyrics, but I like the vibrancy of RodGab). I loose track of time whenever I read about Buddhism. I specially like to study the 8th-fold Noble Path… over and over and over until I reach a day when those concepts finally are part of who I am.

I loose track of time whenever I’m working on a design project that really tickles my brain. I loose track of time whenever I visit a bookstore. I specially like to read essays about current affairs or about design. I also like to read books about film, photography, psychology, history and of course (everyone’s favorite topic) how to become rich and spend the rest of your life living in Hawaii—no pun intended Ben. I also loose track of time whenever I sit to read other designer’s blogs. I don’t have a favorite yet.

As you can see I seem to loose track of time because of a lot of reasons… but I’m always one time for my meetings! Ha!—What a contradiction you might think.

I have an accent, I have facial hair, I have a koi fish tatttoed between my shoulder blades swimming in a sea of back-hair and freckles; I look rough but deep inside I’m a big yellow lab, one sec, make that a brown lab since there are no orange labs—orange is my favorite color and then brown comes right after. I like the outdoors, the indoors and everything in between.

I forgot to mention that I have a really high tolerance for goofiness and silliness.
